Local Attractions

The golden city of Bath has been welcoming visitors for over 2,000 years. Bath presents some of the finest architectural sights in Europe, such as the Roman Baths and Pump Room, the Royal Crescent, Pulteney Bridge and the Circus. The surrounding seven hills, the river Avon running through the heart of the city, and the towers of Bath Abbey combine to create a wonderful first impression. Moreover, Bath takes a real pride in sharing its secrets and unique heritage, which can be explored in a variety of 40 museums, galleries, gardens and attractions. Yet Bath is very much alive and offers an intriguing mix of theatre, festivals, good restaurants, sporting excellence and quality shopping. Bath is framed between two areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Cotswolds and the Mendips. It is also the gateway to the lakes, valleys and villages of North East Somerset.
Roman Baths Hidden beneath the present city of Bath lie the stone remains of one of the finest religious spas of the ancient world. See the remains of the beautifully carved temple and the fearsome Celtic god Sulis. Gaze upon the life-size gilded head of the goddess Minerva, once known only to the priests. Marvel at the eternally rising springs, still gushing forth as they did in Roman times. Smell the mineral-rich steam; walk where Romans walked on ancient time-worn pavements around the Baths. Imagine the effect of the hot steam rooms and invigorating cold plunge pools that lie beside the great swimming bath, still replenished daily with natural hot water from deep underground.
Other Attractions Bath takes pride in its beautiful parks and gardens. In Henrietta Park you can enjoy the Victorian flower gardens with its pergola, fishponds and replica of the Roman temple of Minerva. To make the most of Bath, there are guided walking tours, open top bus tours, balloon flights, river and canal trips. The modern city of Bath has excellent shopping facilities, imaginative street entertainment, award winning parks and top class theatre and festivals bring colour, style and life to this beautiful city.
